The origins of Pierburg go back to 1957, the year that Carbureibar SA was founded in the Guipuzcoan town of Eibar. From their early beginnings the company's activities centered around the manufacturing of carburetors for the automotive sector. The name of the company can be found in the union between the product manufactured by the company and the town in which the company is located. In the beginning, Carbureibar SA developed their own products, but soon established collaborative agreements with other European groups that gave way to growth and expansion.
Following the growth of the company and spacial restrictions within the facilities in Eibar, Carbureibar SA moves to Abadiano in Vizcaya, where the company can be currently found.
The Pierburg AG Group goes on to form part of the shareholders, acquiring up to 20% of Carbureibar SA’s stocks.
In 1988 the Pierburg Group AG goes on to be the primary shareholder of Carbureibar SA, buying up to 70% of their stocks.
The technological switch to fuel injection is imminent causing a dramatic decrease in the production of carburetors in the early 1990s. Carbureibar SA begins to diversify their production in 1989 by beginning production of vacuum pumps.
In 1990 Carbureibar SA begins the production of exhaust control valves and throttle valves.
Pierburg AG Group becomes the only shareholder of Carbureibar SA, bringing about the total integration of a multinational leader in the automobile sector with production plants worldwide.
The year 1993 brings about the passing of the new European norm Euro 2 regarding environmental material. Given the rapid decline of the carburetor, direct fuel injection systems aggressively replace the carburetor. Carbureibar SA suffers the consequences in the slow loss of sales of their star product.
Production of the first Exhaust Gas Recirculation Valves (EGR) is initiated, eventually becoming the product of reference for Pierburg SA.
In 1996 the manufacturing begins in Abadiño of the Automatic Recirculation Valve (ARV), a system which contributes to the reduction of pollutant emissions and is currently still in mass production in our factory.
In the year 2000 Carbureibar SA obtains the certification of its management system in accordance to ISO/TS 16949 norms.
Carbureibar SA obtains the Q1 from Ford which certifies based on the ISO 14001.
Production begins on a new generation of EGR valves driven by an electric motor.
In June of 2006 Carbureibar SA goes on to be officially called Pierburg SA.
Pierburg SA is granted EMAS+QSB certification.
